Our Favorite Myrtle Beach Attractions

Myrtle Beach really does have something for everybody!  Rather you like to come alone, with your kids, or as a romantic get away, you will not be dissapointed with all that the greater Myrtle Beach area has to offer.  Here are a few of our favorites!

Our Favorite Places to Eat

St. Clements Pool Bar and Grill

202 70th Ave (right out your front door!) / 843-449-1112 / St. Clements Bar Facebook

When it comes to a local's favorite - that quickly became a visitor's must, The St. Clements Pool Bar and Grill is a great option for a quick lunch, a drink to take to the beach, or to hang out with friends and shoot corn hole. Robert and his team make everybody feel welcome, and if you go once, he will definitely remember you the next time you visit. The Pool Bar also has several great kid friendly options including chicken fingers and fries and the best Shirly Temple on the beach.  Trust me . . . I've paid for hundreds of them!

River City Cafe

203 73rd Ave, Myrtle Beach 29572 / 843-449-8877 / www.rivercitycafe.com

There are several River City Cafes around Myrtle Beach, but this one is located just a few blocks away.  River City is an easy walk, and well worth it!  All ages enjoy the casual atmosphere and amazing food. There is a list of burgers that will challenge everything you ever thought of burgers!  Definitely try the onion rings, I pair them with the California Pizza Burger, but Chase always opts for the Banana Pepperjack Burger and fries!  If it is busy, and there is a wait, you can hang out on the back patio and have a drink until your table is ready.

Fiesta Mexicana

410 70th Ave, Myrtle Beach, 29572 / 843-497-2781 / fiestamexicanacantina.com

Walking down 70th Avenue has never been more appetizing!  Fiesta Mexicana, while always busy, makes any wait you may have worth it!  We've never had a bad meal here.   Sitting outside on their patio on a warm spring afternoon or a breezy summer evening is a nearly perfect experience.  Service here is always top notch and opting for a pitcher of frozen mango margaritas is never a bad idea!

Lulu's

4954 Hwy 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582 / 843-491-5011 / lulusfunfoodmusic.com

When you head to Barefoot Landing, make sure Cafe Lulu is on your agenda!  Lulu's has live music almost every evening, and it is usually really good.  For added atmosphere, if the weather is nice, ask to sit on the patio overlooking the canal.  This joint was started by Lucy Buffett (Jimmy's sister), but even without that credibility - this place stands on it's own.  One surprising appetizer we fell in love with is the L.A. (Lower Alabama) Caviar.  No . . . it's not traditional fish egg caviar, but black-eyed peas marinated in balsamic vinegar.  Trust me . . you will enjoy it!  Use Open Table to check in and get on the waiting list during peak season!

Finn McCools

501 Lake Arrowhead Road, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 / 843-449-7616 / www.finnmccoolsmb.com

We found this dive by accident, and certainly do not regret it!  If you ever watched Cheers, this place is for you.  I had the steak and Chase had the blackened tuna - both were pretty amazing.  Everybody else was having their fish and chips, but we were trying to eat heathier - which isn't an easy thing here!  In the summer this is a large patio section, but parking on-site is extremely limited.  You may need to park across the street or nearby and walk.

Nacho Hippo

850 N Beach Blvd, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582 / 843-663-9393 / www,nachohippo.com

When we are in the mood for some hearty Mexican food and a good margarita, we usually head straight to Nacho Hippo.  In peak season, there can be a wait, but if everybody is over 21, you can almost always grab a seat at the full-service bar. We've enjoyed conversations with folks from all over sitting at that bar!  We usually split a Hungry Hippo Nacho Platter, then regret that we ordered more food.  The staff here will always take care of you, and live music in the summer always adds to the atmosphere.  There are several Nacho Hippos around, but this one in North Myrtle is our favorite!

Hook and Barrel

8014 N King's Hwy, Myrtle Beach SC 29572 / 843-839-5888 / hookandbarrelrestaurant.com

If you are looking for a special night out, want some creative takes on classic comfort food, and don't mind spending some money, Hook and Barrel is the place to go.  This newer restaurant in Myrtle Beach is an all original concept and bills itself as the areas first eco-friendly restaurant.  Reservations are highly recommended, if not required.  Start off your meal with the Bourbon Bacon appetizer, and you will beg them to bring you another order for dessert!

Captain George's

1401 29th Ave, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 / 843-916-2278 / https://captaingeorges.com/

It has been said that you cannot visit Myrtle Beach without tackling at least one seafood buffet!  Well, let the belt out a notch and head over to Captain George's.  Honestly, this is probably one of the nicest and most diverse buffets in Myrtle Beach.  Even the pickiest of eaters will find something to enjoy here, and the entire restaurant and buffet area are super clean.  The servers here also make sure everybody is taken care of and nobody leaves hungry.

Mr. Fish

3401 N King's Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 / 843-839-3474 / www.mrfish.com

Dressing up?  Dressing Down?  Mr. Fish has you covered.  This restaurant has two different options in the same complex.  The Restaurant has traditional sit-down dining and a more refined menu.  The Market has counter ordered options and picnic tables outside.  We usually prefer the Market, and the hushpuppies at Mr. Fish are legendary.  I honestly don't think I have ever had a better hushpuppy.

Johnny D's Waffles and Bakery

3301 N. King's Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29573 / 843-448-6789 / johnnydswafflesandbakery.com

Johnny D's now has three locations, this one (the original) and a newer venues in North Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach.  Based on the quality of their food and their popularity, I suspect there will be more locations soon!  Chef Jamie Daskalis moved from NY to Myrtle Beach and was quickly named "Best Chef" by South Carolina Woman's Magazine.  Every time I visit Johnny D's I push myself to try something different.  Every time my taste buds thank me!  The Pork Belly Benedict is the breakfast food dreams are made of.  If you don't enjoy it, go straight to the ER and have your vitals checked!

Our Favorite Things To Do

Pirate's Voyage

8901 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 / 843-497-9700 / www.piratesvoyage.com

Get ready for some action-packed sword fighting and high-flying stunts while you dine on some pretty tasty pirate far.  Just be warned, Matey, you may be eating with your fingers!  All ages will enjoy the antics of the pirates, the sea lions, and you never know ... you may be pulled into the show yourself! (Braydon and I were once!).  Dolly Parton goes all out on this venture, and you should definitely check it out. There is a pre-show before the dinner show, and it is worth show up an hour or so early for.  You can snag discounts all over town for this show, and the venue offers Military and other discounts if you give them a call.

Alabama Theatre

4750 Hwy 17S, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582 / 843-272-1111 / www.alabama-theatre.com

The Alabama Theatre, founded by the legendary country music band Alabama, host a wide variety of music acts along with their own review show, One.  One walks you through decades of number one hits, and is filled with great music, dancing, and high-flying arial acrobatics.  Comedic breaks are sprinkled throughout the show, and both kids and adults will find something to enjoy here.

Express Watersports

4042 Highway 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 / 843-357-7777 / www.expresswatersports.com

When you have had enough time just lounging around on the beach and you are ready to take your beach activities to the next level, give Extreme Watersports a call!  Their team will work with you to accommodate all skill and risk levels.  We have gone out on their banana boat tour and the entire family got the ride of their life!  Braydon couldn't wait for more, while Ashley couldn't wait to get off!  The next trip we went parasailing with them.  Usually, I'm not a fan of heights, but once my feet left the boat it was one of the most peaceful and relaxing things I have ever done!  They also offer kayak, jet ski and stand-up paddle board rentals.

Xtreme Laser Tag

964 Lake Arrowhead Rd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 / 843-492-6118 / www.extrememyrtlebeach.com

You might not expect a middle-aged dad to be a sharpshooter, but it is what it is.  At this multi-level indoor area, you can play as teams or as individuals.  There are multiple obstacles to strategically position yourself behind, and look-out points where you can get views of the battlefield.  Afterwards, you'll get a detailed printout of your performance including number of targets hit, percentage of shots that were effective and number of times you were hit.

Putt Putt

Literally anywhere in Myrtle Beach

As soon as we set out for Myrtle Beach, Braydon starts asking "Can we play Putt Putt tonight?". We get asked that question every single day we are in town.  Like visiting the Great Wall of China is a requirement if you visit China, you have to play Putt Putt at least once while you are in Myrtle Beach.  Like zoon animals?  There is a course for that.  Like Pirates?  There are courses for that.  Like Hawaii and volcanos?  There are courses for that!  Imagine it, and there is a course somewhere in Mrytle Beach for you.  We enjoy the course at the end of 70th Avenue.  We will walk there; thing swing by Baskin Robins for ice cream on the way home!

Carolina Country Music Festival

812 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach SC 29577 / www.carolinacountrymusicfest.com

Every summer the brightest stars of country music converge on Myrtle Beach for an all-out production.  There are four stages with concerts going non-stop over the four days of this festival.  Multiple food and drink options are on-site, but consider upgrading to the VIP or SuperVIP tickets for best viewing and perks.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

1251 21st Ave N, Myrtle Beach, SC  29577 / 843-918-6000 / www.milb.com/myrtle-beach

Grab your beer and hotdogs and head over to TicketReturn Field to cheer on Myrtle Beach's Boys of Summer.  The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are a Minor League Baseball team in the Low-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. TicketReturn Field which opened in 1999 and seats up to 6,599 people is family friendly and has actvities for all ages.

Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

919 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC  29577

The Myrtle Beach area's 1.2 mile-long Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade traverses through the sand from the 14th Avenue to 2nd Avenue Piers in Myrtle Beach. Throughout the summer the popular Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is home to festivals and events, including Ocean Boulevard's Hot Summer Nights located at Plyler Park in the heart of the downtown area. Always a family favorite, the boardwalk provides oceanfront views of the pristine beach line, numerous shops and restaurants along its path.

Broadway at the Beach

Year after year, Broadway at the Beach stands alone as by far the most popular tourist destination in the entire Myrtle Beach area. With its great location, convenient parking and wide range of outstanding activities for visitors of all ages, it's the perfect place to make magical memories of your own.  We love the Dave and Buster's there, and the movie theatre is a close option for a rainy-day activity.  The Wonderworks venue is a family favorite - but it is crazy busy on rainy days.

Heritage Shores Nature Preserve

Heritage Shores Nature Preserve is one of the most unique parks in the North Myrtle Beach; created in 2007 with seven acres of walking paths. The park is located on an island that extends into the Cherry Grove Marsh. This land is preserved in its native state and is accessible via a series of elevated boardwalks and observation docks. Interpretive signage throughout the park describes the plants, animals, fishes and birds that can be seen in the park.  There are several picnic tables and benches along the trails if you decide to take a picnic lunch with you.
